30 Days...

If you are not watching 30 Days on FX you are missing out on some of the best 'reality' TV out there. Basically the producers (the people from SUPER SIZE ME) take someone and drop them into a new life for 30 days. So far we have had someone work the coal mines of West Virginia for 30 days, a former NFL players spend 30 days in a wheel chair, a hunter spend 30 days with a PETA family. But last night was fantastic television! A traditional mom spent 30 days with a gay couple who have adopted 4 children. Sparks flew, tension mounted, tears flowed and minds were challenged.

I had some challenges in my own mind. Growing up I was definitely NOT into the gay lifestyle. Over the years I have met and befriended gay people, or as I call them friends. But my mind has always been split. I grew up in an old school environment with some old school ideals. I am one of those weird people that believe in evolution AND creation (that's another LONG post). So while I love my friends, support them and would never deny them any right given to me I am still a little wary of certain issues pertaining to certain groups as a whole. Well after last night my eye have been opened a bit.

At the end of the show the Mom told the gay couple that she respected what they were doing, that they had a loving house and family but she still did not support gays adopting children. I thought I felt the same way, taking a case by case basis. But then again I do not think some straight couples shouldn't be raising families...

I guess I am for FAMILY VALUES, but not Traditional Family Values. Bottom line is when a show can make you rethink some of what you thought were your core values it is definitely worth watching!!!!

Hi There...

One thing leads to another and bam I haven't posted in weeks (sounds like going to the YMCA). My life is good right now at the expense of ignoring some things. The main ones being here and the YMCA. I stopped going and am still paying for it. I do not think I have been there in about 4 months. And before that one week I did go I was away for almost a year. I really really really need to get off my ass and get there! It is only a matter of time before I do.....

Other things going on:
- very active in Scouts right now. I have Summer Camp coming up, which I am planning and scheduling 108 Scouts taking 47 different merit badges with only 5 one hour classes a day. And I have to make sure there is no overlap or conflict. So that has been keeping me up nights alot.
- work is good. I still have some issues with the younger co-workers but I have found time to ignore it and get my job done
- I really need to mow the lawn, the weather has been on and off here and everytime I have a chance to mow, it rains. Tomorrow I work 1st shift so I will be home by 1pm and then I will mow everything. I did mow the front so that the neighbors don't have to look at it.....

That's it for now. Thanks for stopping by, sorry I've been a stranger.....

Happy Father's Day

Well Happy Father's Day to you!

Mine was fantastic!!!! On Saturday we took a drive to Cincinnati and took in a Reds game. They were playing the hated Boston Red Sox so I was all decked out in my Yankees gear. I was getting tons of looks driving into the stadium when I realized that I had my YANKEES LICENSE PLATE on the front of the car (we only need back plates in Indiana) and many Boston fans were pointing and talking and laughing.

The game was great. Our seats were right behind home plate but top section, but really really good. Tim Wakefield had the knuckler floating and the Reds pitcher (tops in the NL but I forget his name) had 9 strikeouts. The game also had 5 home runs including a game tying Home Run in the bottom of the 9th, 2 outs, 2 strikes...then in the 10th Boston had back to back Home Runs and the game was over...still a great time.

Sunday we did NOTHING!!!! Well I did nothing, had a nice brunch with my Dad at an Irish place nearby. Lounged around the house all afternoon (the lawn will still be there tomorrow) and then burgers and brats at my Dad's with the whole family that is in town. We topped it off with a thunder storm and some recorded TV.

All in all a great weekend with the family. Made even better by Father's Day!

Tim Russert

Goodbye good sir.  If there were more journalist like you it would once again be a noble profession!

My Sunday mornings will be empty.  He will be missed now and always!

Thoughts and prayers for him and his family.

Welcome....

This morning at 3am PST my brother and his wife welcomed thier 2nd child, my Godchild!!!! Congrats on the baby girl!!!!!

In other news, nothing. Life has taken such a calm course lately I've nothing to write about. I have the same grumblings as everyone about work and gas and economy, etc.... Nothing worth standing out about.

So instead I welcome little Fiona into our family. And wish her good luck!!!!!

School's Out!!!!

Yesterday was the last day of school for the boy. A rollercoaster of a school year, we are hoping he learned something this year to get his head back in the game and finsh strong the next 3 years. He is taking AP World History. Very tough class, we'll see if he lasts!!!

Band practice starts Monday, yes Monday. These Band Nazi's don't give them a break. He'll be practcing everyday till school starts in August, yes August 7th is the first day of school....wow!!!!

Nothing new for me here. Everything is same old same old. Had some ups and downs with the diet, work has it's ups and downs. The only thing nice and steady is home. Which is actually fantastic! Everybody at home is doing very well, thank you very much!!!!!

I still have 2 weeks left for vacation. One week will be in July as we go to summer camp the other I will spread out at the end of the year to enjoy some nice 3 and 4 day weekends!!!!! I kinda like that!
