Wednesday

It seems like Tuesday with Monday a holiday (but still a work day for me). I think I was the only one in my building on Monday afternoon, and that is fine with me.

Busy day yesterday after work. We had both Scouts and a ball game. However after a 1.5 hours delay they finally called the game. We were waiting for some lightening to pass then it started raining then when the rain passed we all saw a flash so then you wait another 15 minutes then it cleared up but the next game was scheduled to start in 40 minutes so we had to cancel. We hauled out of there to Scouts and made it in time to practice for our canoe trip and I finished a merit badge with 2 Scouts. They were happy and it felt good to help them along the Scouting Trail...

On another note: My parents went to Chicago to visit a few weeks ago and apparently my mother's credit card fell out of her wallet when she was getting gas. Unfortunately it was not found by the right kind of people, fortunately my wife works for the bank the card is from. They started getting high gas charges from Chicago way after they had left. It seems the people who found it were passing it around to their friends and they hit several gas stations in the Chicago area. While the charges are still coming in we think it might hit in the thousands before all is said and done. My parents are safe, they have the credit protection, but it is sad that we live in a world were people would do something like that. I know there are people like that out there but it hits you in the face when it happens to you or your family........

The Day After the Day After

WOW, what a race day we had!!! It started with a 6 hour live broadcast. I was at the track starting at 4:30am. We did 6 hours of straight, non-interrupted live TV, with no relief!!! After all the red carpet, drivers in the garage, owners checking on cars, it was time to start the race. An incredible running of the Indy 500 this year. The 4th hottest in the stands (90), the hottest on the track ever (125) and one of the closest finishes ever (.006 seconds)!!! All in all a great time was had by all and we had an excellent broadcast on the air. Behind the scenes was very stressful with some incidents but those are for another time....

After the race we were home and crashed. Too hot to eat but we did take the dog and go to the local ice cream parlor and had a nice little topper to the day, before I passed out a little after 9pm....

Yesterday I worked (no rest for the wicked) and then enjoyed a nice cook out at the parents house with just us and them...and it was nice to relax, talk, eat then go home and chill in the backyard playing a little ball then finishing off Supernatural (with the boy) and Prison Break (with the wife). Both shows ended very nicely and both are picked up for next year. So what started as a 4 day weekend for most of America was actually a 1 day weekend for my but ended on a great note!!! And another May is behind us! Yippee!!!!!!!!!!

Till Next Year Indy 500!!!!!!

Memorial Day 2006

Gettysburg, Yorktown, Alaska, Pearl Harbor, Sicily, Normandy, Paris, Bastonge, Guam, Midway, Africa, Korea, Vietnam, Kabul, Tikrit....

These are just a handful of places that men and women of this great country gave their lives so we might live free! They gave with honor, wanting nothing in return, they might not have agreed with the action, the President, the Congress or public opinion of the time. They agreed with our Founding Fathers, and the Freedoms they believed in and the country they created out of a wilderness of monarchy, chaos and oppression. They stood on the front line and said "No Further!" and stopped them. They might have fallen when the first bullet flew or survived until the last. In the end it is us that see the end result of their sacrifices. Never will they see the fruits of their labor, the freedoms they saved, the lives that can be because of them.

If they can see us today, I do not think they would be happy at what we've become. How we lie to each other for political means, how we disrespect the Office of the President. How both parties bend the truth to serve them, and what one cried as foul 4 years ago is now fair and how one would tear down an opponent rather than answer a direct question.

While I think they would be disappointed on how things have turned out, I have no doubt in my mind that they would would still lay down their lives even if they knew the future.

Remember these men and women and the opportunity they have given us to live in a free society. And take a moment next time and make choices they would be proud of.

Blink...

It is Saturday at 7:30pm...I woke at 8am, cleaned house, mowed lawn, cleaned out car, had a nice lunch with family, played ball and finally, finally (because it was 85 downstairs and much warmer upstairs) turned on the AC. I just ordered dinner (pizza) when he said it will be ready at 8pm, 8pm?!?!?!?!?!?! I asked if he was jammed (we go there alot) he said no, just 20-25 minutes...It was then that I saw what time it was......

And tomorrow I have to work 12 hours plus watch a 500 mile race....

Good Night!

Been A Long Time...

Sunday is Race Day and I am so glad!!!!  It has been a rough May and the months before hand as well.  One of our Directors was out on maternity leave then had surgery and was out another 8 weeks on top of that.  Since she left I have been working 2 weekends on, and one off.  Add sweeps to that and I am dead tired...after my 10 hour marathon on Sunday it is back to normal for awhile!!  I think the attitudes had work will ease up too once the pressures are off.

Two big finales this week as well.  Lost ended Year 2 on a great note.  Loved the 2 hour episode that answered questions but added 2 more mysteries for every one it solved.  AWESOME!!!!!!  Top Chef rules the reality airwaves...Harold rocked and Dave being drunk was funny but in the end it was all about the food and from start to finish Harold was da'man!

School is almost out for summer and time to find something for the boy to do.  We have several camps set up for him and he made the High School Marching Band so he will be practicing and going to band camp and so on.  Should be a good summer for him, fingers crossed!!!!

Last night was the first night in a long time where we did not have a thing planned!!!  No school, concerts, Over Time, Baseball, Scouts, etc.  So it was go home, relax, enjoy a sit down meal with the family at a decent time and watch a little TV, go over our days and make plans for the weekend.  There is a problem when these days are few and far between, but I cherish them none the less...

Hump Day

Good things on the home front.  The family is all doing well.  The boy finished up his Science Project and got an A (maybe even A+), my Dad is fine, just some testing and everything is OK.  The wife is running around crazy for work.  She did very well on her evaluation and on an audit (top in her class).  Me, work is hell (sweeps and Race Day), working out is good, weight is down and clothes fit better, feeling great!!!

On other fronts, the TV season is coming to an end.  And some of my favorite shows are coming back for the Summer Season!!!  The Unit, My Name is Earl, The Office, and 24 all had great runs and excellent endings.  ER made a nice attempt at a cliff hanger after being pretty much irrelevant for the entire season.  Survivor and The Amazing Race proved once again that they can deliver. On cable, The Shield and Top Chef were favorites and The Sopranos disappointed in their last season (part 2 of the last season starts this Winter).

The Summer Season consists of Rescue Me, Deadwood, Rome and Hell's Kitchen!!!  I can not wait!!!!

Everyone at work is bitching about something and I am so tired of listening to it.  Everyone has a right to bitch and moan but for the love of god people, get over it.  I can bitch with the best of them but the constant bitching is driving me crazy.........

Bullet Points

Had a nice weekend, tons of stuff to touch on but nothing worth a whole big post so I give you:

My Weekend The Bullet Point Edition...

  • 714: Bonds hit number 714 and tied Babe Ruth. I will write about this whole thing at some point this season. But needless to say the man is a drug cheat. He admitted to taking steroids just not intentionally (he thought it was flaxseed oil). You honor, I thought it was a pound of sugar, oh it was coke, sorry...can I go now.
  • Yankees: get rid of Randy Johnson, trade ARod and use the money saved to pick up some good pitchers under the age of 30, hell under the age of 39 at this point.
  • Interleague Play: I hate it, but I understand some like it. So in compromise I offer this: Limit interleague play to a 3 game series right before the All Star Break and a 3 game series right after it. The first one will be Geographic rivals, that way you are close to home and the people see the cool matchups: NY v NY, TB v FLA, TX v Houston, Oakland v SanFran, the Battle of Ohio, Chicago. Then after the All Star Break do classic rivalries, Mets v Boston, Giants v Yankees, A's v Dodgers...that would gather interest and keep the impact on Divisional Standings to a minimum, plus who wants to watch a World Series with 2 teams that had already played several meaningless games already this season.
  • The DaVinci Code: Great Book, boring movie. Very slow and going through the motions. Hanks was too much like, Hey that's Tom Hanks then oh cool he is Langdon. The girl was plain and the Albino Monk was the best part of the movie. Wait for DVD and reread the book instead of going to the theater.
  • Outdoors: The boy went on a campout to Northern Indiana and I stayed home and did yard work. Cleaned the deck and backyard, mowed twice (rain + fertilizer=lots of grass), grilled and stat in the yard and played ball with the dog. I love summer weather!!!!
  • Parents: My Dad is going in for a 'procedure' as my mom calls it, nothing else is known so say a prayer and I'll find out more...Thanks!

Peace, Man!!!

Yippee to the Hippees!!!!! What a great run they had and a fantastic season. After the show the wife says, It is about time a favorite, someone people like won.......I had to agree. I would have been very disappointed if the Frat Boys won.........another season in the can. Can't wait till next time. CBS has moved the show to Sunday at 8pm. Nice family show time so I hope that works....

On the "No one blogs", I stand corrected......go check out All I want is a good night's sleep

Something to Crow About

I almost totally forgot about this!!!!!!!  This weekend we were all out of the clean clothes and I would not let the wife do laundry on Mother's Day (I am not allowed to touch the new washer/dryer) so I had to go to the back of the closet to get a clean pair of jeans and sure enough I found a pair, from 2 years ago, another size smaller!!!!!!!!

If I actually needed a reason to go to the gym and eat right, there it is!

Hump Day

Is it the week that Blogger's forgot? All my regular reads are down, no one is writing, so I jump on the wagon and say "I'll give them something to read!!!" And I have nothing! WTF???

It is my off day so no working out, my Yankees won but I am sure you will see those highlights on ESPN, this has been the slowest May Sweeps EVER, even all my TV shows are setting up for finales.....

I am in the middle of reading a book on Baseball History and I am only up to 1900, nothing new added to the Ipod or picked up at the library. The boy has a campout this weekend but I cannot go due to work and we haven't played a baseball game in 2 weeks because the weather has been so lousy...

I'll catch up with you when my life is not so boring.......

Late Night

Survivor is over and what a great season this one was!!! I think that Terry deserved to win it all as one of the most dominating players of all time. He just ruled the game and made it to the Top 3 without the numbers since the merge!!! I liked Danille but in the end I knew between the final 2 that Aras would win out, too bad. A couple of inside Survivor notes: Courtney was a BITCH on her day after interviews, as we were interviewing her we talk to the satellite people and they said what you see is what you get (during the interview), she was bitter and rude and seemed above it all. On the other end, Shane was an absolute joy. He had a blast and was very firmly grounded, he joked and poked fun at himself and alas had a cig the moment "The Grim Reaper snuffed out my torch." Another great season of the original Reality Show is in the books and now we have our Thursday's back.

Nice weekend Recap:
- Saw MI:3 with the wife on Saturday, so-so. No real plot, villain bland and we never find out what the mystery threat is, and it ended like a frickin' love story, Boo. Although the action is there and Cruise did a fine job (he must a a run coach to teach him the cool straight back arms pumping move). Wait for DVD

- Saw Poseidon with the family on Sunday for Mother's Day. That was fun!!! I loved the original and was happy that this did not try to make it something it was not. No message, no hidden adjenda, just an upside down boat and a need to GET OUT!!!!! I love disaster movies!!!! And yes I hate remakes but this broke then mold and was fun!

Busy week again this week. Two ball games (if it doesn't rain) and Scouts and School Concert and Camping trip Friday to Sunday. Add sweeps and race day prep and at 8:07am I am already behind......

Till Next Time!

Happy Mother's Day (x2)

Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers who visit here, it should be a whole week!!! You are under appreciated as the foundation of our country!!!

To my Mom: though you are sometimes a pain in the butt, you did all right with all of us and we could not hope for anything better than growing up with you as our mom, I love you.

To my wife: we only have one child and he is the luckiest boy in the world to have a person like you as his mom! I am even more fortunate that someone like you chose to be my wife!! Happy Mother's Day!

Scanners......

Right now I feel like Michael Ironside from Scanners, for you youngen's look it up, but my head is about to EXPLODE!!!!!!

Our Coporate VP (Very Big Boss) saw this 'awesome' end credit move on a Texas TV station that we just HAD TO DO....it involves a squeeze back move at the end of the news into a laptop PC and a promotion for the website. Lots of cool graphics and effects and he had to have it N O W !

So they approach me with the Art Department and say this is what we want and we want you to do it. Art designs the animation and PC and all that and I marry it with the Video Switcher and Digital Effect generator to make it work (with help from co-workers). So we get the initial one done and tell the Art Department what they need to change. They say OK and leave...2 weeks later (we had moved on too other things) I go to the Art Department and ask were the new animation is, oh we did it 2 weeks ago, can I have it on tape so we can finish this, oh yea, sure....ARRGGGG!!!!

Get the new animation and it is still wrong, they fixed nothing, I send it back with what needs to be fixed. My Boss tells me Big Boss is looking for it and I tell her that Art is still working on the animation (and relay the delay story).

Fast forward 3 weeks, Art finally gets the new animation to us and we proceed to work on it when THAT DAY my Boss come sin and says the Big Boss wants it NOW!!!! I tell her that Art was dragging their feet and that we just got all the components and can finally put it together, well now it is OUR FAULT it is not on the air yet. We bust ass and finish it that day and tell them it is ready for the 5pm show.....when we are told that Big Boss and Friends have to see the final project and approve it for air.

Fast Forward 1 week later ( it had to be done NOW) when the BB and Fs finally show up and see it and say OK...Fast Forward again 12 days when the News Director finally tells us we can actually use it, Yippee.

Fast Forward 2 weeks (yesterday) when the GM says he does not like the background and changes it, and I do it and put it on the air on the Noon Show. Then jump to the 6pm Show when the producer comes running in and says the VBB (Very Big Boss) saw the close on the air last night while at a bar and hates it, never use it again!!!!!

Here comes the Scanner part, it was his fucking idea in the first place, that he just had to have!!!

boom.

Triple Snoozer!!

Hit the snooze button 3 times this morning but still managed to get up and out and hit the gym.  After my regular workout I ran home quick and did my thing and went to work.

The wife slept in a little, which I can do tomorrow.  However I know she has to work tomorrow and that means I will be up early.  See she likes to set her alarm so that it goes off 20-30 minutes before she needs to be up.  However it wakes me up and then I cannot get back to sleep because I worry that she is not going to wake up.  It happens every weekend when she works and it drives me up a tree.  There is however nothing I can do, so I just deal with it.  Hopefully, someday she will change the habit, but after 15 years together, I think that won't happen.....

I found my bike, Honda Shadow Aero 750, but now I have to convince the wife..........we'll see.  No shit, my dad is looking at the same one, both of us not letting the other know what we were looking for....funny!

Catsup

So what has been happening:

- Worked from 5:30am till 11:30pm on Saturday
- Mowed, raked, shopped and cleaned my office
- Had a true LAZY SUNDAY!!!

The wife asked me after the long Saturday what I wanted to do today, I said nothing and nothing is what we did. Not really nothing but no real work. Did some dishes, played some baseball in the backyard, grilled dinner (YES!!!), sorted through some old (1978-80) baseball cards with the boy and just enjoyed the day!!! Everyone needs a day like that one.

The boy is doing well in school, of his 9 classes: 6 are 93% or better, one is up from a D to a B+ and the last 2 are hovering around C but he did two big projects with should boost one grade and he needs to bust butt in Math to pick up the grade there. All in all we are proud of what he is doing and have let him know that. He hasn't seen his XBox games in weeks and only this weekend asked when he can have them back. While he has been grounded we have let him go out twice after he did well in school or a good project...kind of incentive to do well.

Mother's Day is coming up and the boy will be gone with the Order of the Arrow this weekend. He was elected by his Troop to the Order and now has to go through the Ordeal. We are very proud of him. That leaves the wife and I home alone this weekend. I think dinner and a movie is in store. I like that fact that the house is being kept clean and the yard looks good and
should not take too long to do.

On the TV front:
- Lost: OH MY GOD!!!!!!!
- 24: What is going on, that dweeb!
- Sopranos: Past it's prime
- Survivor: Finale this weekend, Go Terry!!!
- Amazing Race: what were the Hippies thinking without his shoes?!?!?!?

Just a quick wrap up and a howdy from work during lunch.

What?!?!?!?

I made a post yesterday and now it is gone?!?!?!?!?

Anyway, just reporting on the fact that I have been very busy and had no time for the deep post...and yet here it is and still no time....

So I must pay the bills and get to work...

Till Next Time.

TGIF!!!

I had a long week and it is only longer as I work tomorrow from 4am till 10:30pm....but that is life in TV.

Been very tired lately, I again overslept and missed working out, bad me!!! But did very well yesterday at the Y so I can rest easy this week and jump back in full force on Monday!!!!

Did a little TV watching last night. I do not know if I am happy about Shane leaving, he made for good TV. But man Survivor is heating up!!

On Top Chef the final 3 was picked for Las Vegas and I am pissed that Tiffany made it, bitch. They do have a reunion show next week and looks like a good one.

Lost was over the top, I will not post any spoilers but DAMN!!!!!!!

Finally Ghost Hunters on SciFi was AWESOME!!! I watched it last night with the lights off and everyone in bed and it freaked me out!!! This is the stuff we have been waiting for all season! Great TV!!!!

They boy has been working hard...he has been doing very well in his classes and has brought his grades way up since the mid term. He still has a brain fart once in a while but is overall doing very well. He still does not have Xbox 360 games back and yesterday was a chore day (he was home from school instead of Granny's) and I had a list of things for him to do, which he did. I have high hopes for this one!

Wouldn't It Be Nice...

Almost every night before I fall asleep I think about what I would do if I had 3 wishes. I started doing it as a distraction. It takes me sometimes hours to fall asleep and this was a way to put my mind to work and then suddenly the alarm is waking me up. IT has given me lots of things to ponder over the years, immortality, billions, last man on earth, futures for my son, the end of terrorism...

But last night it was against one man, Barry Bonds. I wished that as he walked to the plate his body would morph into what it would look like without steroids. If he remained the same then good for him, if not he was banned from baseball. Nothing is more sacred in baseball than the Home Run record. And for him to disgrace it like this and for Baseball to let him dishonors the game. It truly makes me sick to my stomach!

Tuesday's With Bryan

I over slept today which means no workout, damn! I did need the sleep, I work a double this weekend, and not a regular double but one in which I actually have to WORK!!! Usually I stay in the studio and if I am there for the double it is tiring but tolerable. But this weekend is the Mini Marathon, which means crew call at 5am and travel to site, set up, work several hours of live TV, then tear down. That's a tough day in itself but then I have to return to the station that evening to work the night newscasts. I am not looking forward to that, but it is a good time (the Mini) and some extra bucks in the old wallet.

We played another late game last night and are now 4-0. The boy smoked a double that hit the fence (250ft) and made two great plays at home saving some runs. The only run of the night was when we walked a guy with the bases loaded. All in all a great night for the team.

Gotta go and catch up with my morning routine...

Home Again

SO I made it through the weekend in one piece. I turned 36 Saturday. I woke early and packed for a camping trip (which the boy left on the night before). I drove down to Bloomington, Indiana for the Spring Camporee. We had a great time. Most of our older Scouts were not there and we still placed 3rd (out of 15 Troops). We even had 2 first year patrols and 2 2nd year patrols. All in all a good turn out and the boys had fun. I enjoyed just sitting in camp talking with the adults and working with the Scouts. Always a good time.

Of course a night in a tent is a week with a bad back. It still hurts today, but I got out of bed early and hit the gym to start off May and my 36th year right. It was a good workout, better than I expected, and my back is better already!!!

Weather wise it was nice for the camp and Sunday. It rained like a mother on Saturday night (around 4am), it was a downpour and I dreaded the morning, but it stopped around 6:30am and we were able to pack up and ship out under grey but dry skies. But that only means that the grass is already in need of a cut and for the next 4 days I am swamped. Tonight baseball, Tuesday Scouts, Wednesday Baseball and Thursday Dinner with parents.....what a tough life I have!

Got 2 great gifts this weekend: from the Parents a subscription to MLB Extra Innings, 60 MLB games a week on the TV, including my Yankees!!! From the wife a new watch, but not just any watch a citizen's and not just any Citizen but the EXACT ONE I HAVE BEEN LOOKING AT FOR 6 MONTHS BUT TOLD NO ONE!!!!! I guess my wife really knows me!
