Late Night...

Suffered from Heat exhaustion this weekend. We were out and about in the hot sun all day Saturday and come Saturday night we all had wicked headaches and no appetite! Needless to say a lot of TV and AC was in store for Sunday.

Father's Day was spent sleeping in and then an awesome meal at the local Irish Pub with the whole family. We spent the afternoon there and then back home to NOTHING! I sat and watched some TV, spent some time with the family, wrote some letters to ballplayers with the boy and sent them cards to autograph for us. It was a nice relaxing Father's Day!!

Today is one of my late days. I have to work nights this week (sucks) for a vacationing Director. I do not complain much at work about it as I have a nice schedule normally so this shift a few times a year (the boss also uses me on the AM shift as well) is fine. The less waves you try to make the better it is when you really need something. For example, I asked for a few days off in July, someone had already picked them (and she has seniority) but the boss felt bad she could not give them to me. She told me to a) pick some other days and b) she was changing the schedule to have me work that weekend but now will call in someone else to do it so I can have some time off that week that I wanted. It works out for me as it was not an important event I was taking off for and I did want that weekend for travel and now I have it.

So here it is almost noon and I will be taking a shower and then running some errands before I head to work. Seems nice to be able to watch a movie this morning and still have 4 hours to get stuff done...

End Game

This was the longest week all year. With the 500 starting Sunday (I was at the track at 4am) and the end of ratings it has been a long haul and I cannot wait for tomorrow!!! It will be nice to put May in the rear view mirror. My work is crazy all month. Not only it is the final ratings period that matters (all the shows do their season finale's) but here in Indiana we have Race Month. Cars show up at the end of April and go all month till the race. We also broadcast the largest mini-marathon in the nation, the Indy 500 parade, the celebrity ball and then of course the morning of the race. Add into that sweep stories, breaking news and weather alerts and you have a month to tear out the hair!!!!! It is officially over and now we can go back to normal a bit.

Friday

What a week. And it is not over yet. I still have to work our 500 Mini-marathon tomorrow. I direct it from the Finish Line. We are it live from start to finish and then rebroadcast it twice over the weekend. It is a huge project but in the end very worthwhile.

I am grumpy because my finger hurts. I have a little bump on the inside knuckle of my right pinkie. It is like the vein is blocked, I have been able to put a little pressure on it and it would flatten out and I could feel it unclog. But then it would fill up again. Now it is stiff and sore, maybe because I spent yesterday trying to flatten it out to no avail. If it does not get any better it is off to the doctor. It was a come and go issue for years now it is a come and stay issue. Hurts like a mother.

Holu Smokes....

What a quick week. I have had tons of sh*t tossed at my feet since I have returned from vacation. We are unveiling a ton of stuff at work (I will get into more details at a later date) and after I have done all this work on one project they turn around and say oh by the way we forgot to tell you we changed this and this and this...3 days of work down the shitter. You know it is bad when I wake up first thing in the morning and I am trying to figure out a way to make something work for work.

LOST: oh my Gawd! Finally they hit their stride! These past few episodes saved it from death I think. The story is moving along and we ARE BACK ON THE BEACH!!! Thank you LOST people. I was tired of the Others week after week. There is only so much of 2 people in a cage on can watch. I like Desmond, and his story is very interesting. I did catch the picture on the monk's desk but it took a moment for it to register. Nice forward of the story while adding another mystery...

PS: Dear Beach Livers, there is a perfectly good village a few hours away. Last I checked it was empty. I has a roof, running water and indoor toilets. That plus a nice piano Jack used. Why the heck are you still on the beach?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Get moving!

What The?

Yesterday was a long day at work. We broke with the VTech story during the noon show and had to sit through coverage till after the 6pm. As the day went on it got worse and worse. I was glad to be home and able to flip the channel and get away from it.

It is hard sometimes to remain objective in my business. You get hammered by images sometimes all day long that they lose meaning. Maybe objective is the wrong word, maybe compassionate? We laugh and joke a lot during the day because I think it is an easy way to deal with hours of negativity shoved in your face. The people at home have a choice of what to watch we do not.

Two things have stayed with me for some time now. First and foremost is 9/11. I worked that day and called in the next. I lived there in NYC and I have yet to be back to the city. We went to New York last week. The boy wanted to see Ground Zero. We did not go as we had several other things going on. But deep down I am glad we did not. I am not sure how I will take it. I get upset (read pissed) when I see footage used of that day as if it was just any other b-roll. I think too many people have forgotten it already!

The other picture that has stayed with me for years is the Oklahoma bombing. The photo of the fireman carrying that little girl. I had to make several graphics of that during that week. It came to a point where I could not look at it anymore. Someone will have it on a show or package occasionally and I am shocked at my reaction when it catches me off guard. I thought of posting a link to it so you know which one I am talking about but I do not even want to Google it.

I feel for those people at Virginia Tech and will say a little prayer for them. I would hate to see them become the new poster children for school violence. The last thing one of them wants is to see themselves being carried with blood all over to an ambulance while they are still trying to recover.......
